Regarded as the most famous second banana in show business history, Ed McMahon died early Tuesday morning at UCLA Medical Center after a long bout with bone cancer. Arguably his most famous assignment lasting 30 years was that of announcer and sidekick of Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. The last few years of his life were filled with tragedy, ranging from his first son’s death from cancer in 1995 to him breaking his neck in 2007 (which all but obliterated his prolific television work). McMahon was 86.

Mr. McMahon was certainly likeable and well-known, and I think some of his popularity came from his flaws. For example, when he died he was in financial distress about to lose his home and many of us can sympathize deeply with money troubles, especially this year. He seemed a warm and approachable good guy. Rest in peace, Ed.
who can ever forget….”heeeere’s Johnny” made so famous from Ed Mcmahon.
I think the impact he made as the best
“sidekick” in the business…he will always be remembered for his charm …wit…and ability to enjoy a good jovial laugh.

i agree with thomas…and doris…they seemed to sum up america’s respect for Ed Mcmahon. He seemed to have the ability to be average man’s friend.
