Bailouts for big car companies? How about using bikes (although I like horses too)? The more people bike, walk, and get food locally, etc, the better for everyone!

Although I'm happy to have a car and don't know where I would house my horse and buggy in a big city, I do think that the production of fuel-efficient cars are long overdue by most car companies. Chrysler should have long ago been working towards eliminating the gas guzzling vehicles and getting with the times - forseeing the direction of the market. I don't know enough about the companies demise to really have a strong opinion on this specific case. Generally speaking, I'm not sure that I agree with this concept of temporary bankruptcy. I don't think that a company should be cleared of all debts. Perhaps a temporary break from their liabilities is okay or even a negotiated reduction of debt only to spur their recovery and then they can repay whomever, later. I do think we need to support the American auto industry but another bailout (however above board it may be) just seems like a bad business model being supported by the government...

Myself, I wish we would run out of gas and return to the horse and buggy.
---- Or maybe Lee Iaccoca should come out of retirement and give a hand to Chrysler? --- My thought is that companies that do not perform should go away permanently, no bail-outs, no bankruptcy, just let them go broke period.
